A State Of Mind
Chris trudged down the hallway towards his place. He should have been happy to be home but he wasn’t feeling much of anything. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t tear his mind away from the hospital these days. These days? It had been like this for so long, he couldn’t remember the last time he had been able to unwind.
He cringing slightly as the floor squeaked when he walked into the bedroom. After shedding his clothes he climbed carefully into bed, trying not to wake up his sleeping boyfriend. He thought he had succeeded until he felt Shaun move and slide up against him, draping an arm around his shoulders.
“How was your night?’ he asked without opening his eyes.
Chris shook his head automatically. “I don’t want to talk about it.’
It had been the worst kind of shift, starting off slowly and building up to a non-stop stream of patients. His neck and shoulders still ached from his last surgery. He glanced at the time. 12:34. He could manage nearly five hours if he could get to sleep right now. Read more…
